This morning’s reading was Matthew 4-6, but the verse out of that reading that I claimed for the day was Matthew 6:22,
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Matthew 6:22, ESV
The immediate context of this verse is materialism and the need to store up our treasures in heaven instead of earth. But a wider application is having a “godly eye” and seeing the world with a deeply spiritual perception. This morning, I found myself asking God to give me a “godly eye” that sees the spiritual value, purpose and potential in things around me. Lord let me see spiritual purpose in wealth entrusted to me, the people I lead, the problems I face, the decisions I make and the opportunities that present themselves each and every day.
